Hello, my name is Barbara Pierce. I am Mr. Latta’s constituent, and I live in Oberlin. I would like to urge Representative Latta to cosponsor the Access Technology Affordability Act, H.R. 1529. This bill will create a refundable tax credit for the purchase of qualified access technology for the blind. In addition, a recent report created by Mathematica estimates that the passage of the Access Technology Affordability Act will actually save the government approximately $315 million over five years, by increasing employment for blind Americans, thereby decreasing the need for us to receive government benefits while at the same time contributing more in taxes. Rep Mike Kelly, the sponsor, is an enthusiastic supporter of this bill, but we bedly need more Republicans to cosponsor the legislation. Many blind Ohioans are kept out of the working population because they cannot afford the accessible electronics they would need to do their jobs and rehabilitation funding is completely insufficient to provide it to them.
Thanks,
Barbara Pierce (she, her, hers)

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise expectations for blind people because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and their dreams. You can live the life you want; blindness is not what holds you back.
