As we gear up for November, don’t forget that the convention is more than just prizes and auctions—it’s a chance to reconnect with longtime friends, make new acquaintances, and share stories that inspire us all. Whether you’re a first-time attendee or a seasoned veteran, your participation keeps our community thriving. There will be workshops, lively discussions, and memorable moments around every corner.
If you have questions about donating items or labeling them in braille, don’t hesitate to reach out. Accessibility is central to our mission, and together we’ll ensure everyone can fully participate and enjoy the festivities. Mark your calendars and bring your spirit of generosity and camaraderie. This convention promises to be our best yet, and I can’t wait to celebrate with you! Safe travels and see you soon.

The National Federation of the Blind advances the lives of its members and all blind people in the United States. We know that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. Our collective power, determination, and diversity achieve the aspirations of all blind people.

Subject: [Ohio-Talk] It’s starting to feel like fall and convention season
Hello Ohio!
The air is just starting to feel a little cooler. Kids are going back to school and it will soon be time for football. All of these means that fall is coming and that means so is our state convention! President Payne has already started registration contest, so get your registration in and let’s have some friendly competition.
And speaking of winning, it is time to start collecting door prizes for me to give away at convention. Door prizes can be anything from gift cards, baked goods, Bath, and body items, and yes, everybody’s favorite, cash. It is not too early to start thinking about what you, your chapter, or your division would want to donate. So bring all of your door prize donations to convention and find me in the door prize room. Also, please have all of your prizes labeled in braille of what they are and who is donating them. We can’t have too many door prizes!
I wonder if President Payne will win again this year? We will have to wait and see. But he will only win if he is registered and in the room if his name is called.
And, With all of the excitement around convention and door prizes, we can’t forget one of the most exciting parts of convention. Our annual banquet auction! This is a great fundraiser for the affiliate and is a lot of fun. For this we would want bigger ticket items. Gift baskets With a theme are always popular. Many chapters and divisions work on this as a group. We also have had luck with electronics, craft items, sports, and theater tickets, and many other things! As with the door prizes, please bring auction items to the door prize room when you get to convention. And, please have your auction item labeled in braille as well. That way everybody knows what they’re bidding on and we can get top dollar!
Thanks to all of you for your wonderful donations that I know we will have for both door, prizes and auction items! I am looking forward to seeing every one of you in November!
