I am sorry to report that Phil Copeland of the Lorain County chapter died Tuesday afternoon. It was actually a release for Phil. He was missing Lois, his wife of many years.

Phil and Lois were founding members of the Lorain County chapter. He served as president of the chapter for a bit. He chaired the Gavel Award Committee and the Resolutions Committee for sometime in the early eighties. Phil was a wise and dedicated counselor for many years. When we visited him in the Kendal Care Center, he made it clear that he was ready to go home. I know nothing about services. The Copelands had no children, and his nephew lived in California. If I learn more, I will pass it along.

The National Federation of the Blind knows that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise expectations for blind people because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and their dreams. You can live the life you want; blindness is not what holds you back.
