We encourage all members to consider participating, whether you can attend in person or virtually. Your involvement is vital to demonstrate the strength and diversity of our community, and to ensure that our collective voice is heard at the state level.
Last year several of our members attended the advocacy day event and it is very important to get a large showing from across the state we can do this, and I will be attending in person chapters should do their best to accommodate getting members to the capitol.
Join the conversation.

The Ohio 14(c) Task Force, along with partners including The Ability Center, OOTF, the National Federation of the Blind of Ohio, and Ohio APSE, are going to the Ohio Statehouse on Tuesday, October 7th. We will be meeting with state legislators to educate them on HB 225, which would phase out subminimum wages for workers with disabilities. These meetings will either be in-person or virtual, depending on your availability. Our Task Force believes this practice is outdated and makes it more difficult for Ohioans with disabilities to find competitive work, and we're gathering on the 7th to help lawmakers learn more about this important issue. Whether you have experience working for a subminimum wage, are a service provider, a concerned family member, or an advocate, we want legislators to hear all of our voices and perspectives on the complex topic of 14(c).
By following this link and registering, The Ability Center will take your information and schedule a meeting with legislators in your home district, either in-person or virtually. The Ability Center will not be able to provide transportation, so please consider this when choosing which type of meeting you are interested in.
For additional information, you can reach out to Jules Patalita at <mailto:jpatalita at abilitycenter.org> jpatalita at abilitycenter.org or call at (419) 885-5733 x120

The National Federation of the Blind advances the lives of its members and all blind people in the United States. We know that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. Our collective power, determination, and diversity achieve the aspirations of all blind people.
