Hello, Everyone,
I'm sending this report out early due to the high potential for severe thunderstorms and internet issues.

8-15-2026 Braille And Tech Report
There's a lot were NLS. related announcements.
Before we get into that though, I want to say that I hope that every one made it through the recent round of storms safely and that they didn't cause too much damage. Also, please stay safe and keep your devices charged up today, because they're calling for another round of storms, some of which could be severe.

NLS. Announcements:

1. This month's That All May Eread program will be going over features that will be in software version 3.1 of the NLS. ereader. The presentation will be on Aug. 28, at 7 PM. You can lear more by googling:
Patron Engagement Section NLS.

2. The software version 2.0 update for the NLS. DA2 player is out!
This update features such as support for NFBNewsline, and Bookshare, and the afility to type on the DA2 using a bluetooth keyboard. However, please keep in mind that bluetooth keyboards that require a PIN when pairing are not supported!
Demos of NFBNewsline and Bookshare will be recorded.

The update is available as an over-the-air update, using wi-fi. If you can't and don't have access to wi-fi, you can call the library and ask them to send you a cartridge containing the update.

If you're updating your player, make sure the player is either plugged in, or has at least 50% battery.
Here are instructions with updating your player online:

Power on your DA2.
Once you are connected to Wi-Fi, if an update is available, the DA2 will announce: “Update available. Press Info to confirm. Press any other key to cancel.”
Press Info to confirm.
The DA2 will begin downloading the update from the internet. This may take some time depending on your Wi-Fi connection.
Once the update has finished downloading, the DA2 will announce: “Install update now?”, followed by the version number, and then “Info to confirm, any other key to cancel.”
Press Info to confirm.
If the DA2 is plugged into power, it will automatically restart and begin the installation.
If the DA2 is running on battery power, it will shut down instead. Power the DA2 back on to begin the installation.
During the installation process, the DA2 will speak the update progress at 5% intervals.
Once the update is finished, the DA2 will say, “update complete, shutting down.”

The updated user guide should be available on BARD. in audio and braille formats within the next couple of weeks.
You can also access it using your DA2 player by doing the following:

2. Give a few minutes to load. Wait until it says bookshelf (number of books)
3. From there, locate the bookshelf button. It's located on the left side of the unit, below the speaker. It has 3 vertical lines on it, and has the letters sf in braille above it.
