Hello Employment Community,
We want to share an important update on House Bill 225, which advances the phase-out of subminimum wage in Ohio.
Thanks to collaborative efforts among individuals, families, providers, advocates, and other interested parties over the past several months, we have reached a positive milestone. The five-year transition out of subminimum wage remains intact. Just as importantly, the amended language reflects the priorities raised by stakeholders --- especially around choice and continuity of services and providers that people rely on every day.
Where the Bill Stands:
May 20: The amended version of HB 225 was officially adopted by the House of Commerce and Labor Committee.
Current Status: We anticipated the bill would appear on the committee agenda for vote this past week, but the schedule shifted. We are monitoring the timing closely.
The Ohio 14(c) Taskforce continues to work hand-in-hand with legislative partners to support the bill's progress and to ensure you receive clear, reliable information throughout this process.
Next Steps for Advocacy
No action is needed at this exact moment. Once the committee schedule is officially confirmed, we will share updated, targeted guidance on the most effective next steps for outreach--- including exactly which committee members to contact. We want to ensure every action we take together is current, reliable and has the maximum possible impact.
Thank you for your continued dedication and support to HB 225.

The National Federation of the Blind advances the lives of its members and all blind people in the United States. We know that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. Our collective power, determination, and diversity achieve the aspirations of all blind people.
