>From the 2026 Kenneth Jernigan Fund Committee
Think back to your very first NFB National Convention. The Trepidation of
wondering how you'd find your way to the exhibit hall and meeting rooms;
being surrounded by fellow Federationists you had not yet met; making your
way through the exhibit hall and checking out the new products and gadgets.
And then returning home, with renewed confidence in not only yourself but in
the Federation as a positive agent for change.
The Kenneth Jernigan Scholarship Fund can help make this experience possible
for the members of your chapter or division who have not yet participated in
a national convention. The Scholarship Committee is asking that you discuss
the possibility of applying for a first-timer scholarship to help share the
cost of traveling to and participating in the 2026 Convention July 3 - 8 in
Austin, Texas.
At your April meeting, we encourage you to share your own convention
stories and use the following questions to spark discussions about applying
for a Kenneth Jernigan Scholarship (application deadline is April 15.
1. What makes convention so empowering and uplifting?
2. Why is it so important to learn about blindness?
3. Why do you encourage others, especially first timers, to attend?
4. How can first timers keep up with all the great information at
convention?
5. How do you afford convention?
6. How will first time attendees get around the hotel?
For your convenience, we have included the link to the Kenneth Jernigan
Scholarship Fund webpage below;

We invite chapters to have this discussion to increase national convention
participation amongst all members.
Warmly,
Marilyn Green, Member

The National Federation of the Blind advances the lives of its members and
all blind people in the United States. We know that blindness is not the
characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the
expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles
between blind people and our dreams. Our collective power, determination,
and diversity achieve the aspirations of all blind people.
