The National Federation of the Blind advances the lives of its members and all blind people in the United States. We know that blindness is not the characteristic that defines you or your future. Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. Our collective power, determination, and diversity achieve the aspirations of all blind people.

Hey Richard, this is Chacity. I wanted to answer the question and I’m about to go register. The process is you have to show interest pay your $15 take the pledge and someone needs to put you into the New membership portal. That is how you become a member.

Dear members, I know I often write about the weather, and today is no exception—it reached 94 degrees. Thankfully, my new central air conditioning is keeping the house cool. I hope you have been reading the messages sent through the list, as they contain helpful information for you and the affiliate. With the convention only 64 days away, we should all be making plans to attend. Chapters, divisions, and individual members should also prepare to contribute to the PAC Plan and Money for the Movement. Please consider bringing door prizes so everyone has a chance to leave with one—perhaps Annette and Misty will not remove my name again this year! Chapters and divisions must send me a report, even if they choose not to submit a gavel report, and pay the per capita dues of a $10 flat fee plus $1 for each member. Reports and dues are due one week before the state convention; late submissions will incur a $25 fine.
Now for a little fun: here is the first contest. To qualify for the prize, you must be registered for the convention. Once you have registered and reserved your room, you may enter. The prize is $100 in spending money, which will be awarded in person at the convention; you must be present to receive it. To enter, answer this question: What is the process for onboarding new members into the Federation? Email your answer to me by noon on Saturday, September 5, 2026. Good luck!
