Hi. I'd suggest the blue snowball, Samson c3u, or, the rode podcaster.

Cameron.

I'd really appreciate your recommendation for microphones. Are there any
that cheap that do a reasonable job with vocals? I have to get one for
vocals in any event.

Hi. Wow! That sounds pretty neat! Haven't seen a laptop that large yet
myself. The sound quality of those little mics is okay. Your best bet
would be to do a test with audacity or another recording program and see.
If you don't care for it, you can get some fantastic USB microphones for
under $150.

I can recommend some models if you wish when the time comes.

Hope you get your power back soon. I grew up in upstate new york mostly so
I know all about severe weather and losing power etc.

Hi Cameron,
It's a Dell, but I don't know the model. We had severe weather yesterday and
had a hard time finding open roads to get home. When we got here, the
driveway was washed out and the power had already been out for hours. We
have a generator to run the fridge, freezer fish tank and such, but it
doesn't run the well pump. It finally got fixed just before noon, but it'll
be a while till we can set it up.

I can tell you that it's 17 inch screen, has a web cam and 4 gig RAM and a
500 something hard drive. It's huge really compared to my desktop. I wonder
how good the sound for the web cam will be, if I'll be able to do podcasts.

Hi Cameron,
I use Jaws which is based on the calculator in the Num Lock On position.
Yesterday we got a Dell laptop with the calculator built into the keyboard.

Hi. I've never used calculator on a laptop, if you use that a lot, you
could get a USB number pad...

A couple more laptop related items...

In laptop keyboard mode, your caps lock key becomes your insert key so you
hold it down like you would insert. And when you want to use caps lock for
it's normal purpose, you press it quickly two times, then jaws will say caps
lock on, or, caps lock off.

I've had a few different laptops and I've very rarely hit the mouse pad or
buttons by accident. However, you can disable the mous if you go to control
panel, system, hardware page, tab down and hit the device manager button,
this will bring up a tree view, arrow down to mice and other pointing
devices and hit the right arrow to explore that branch, and find your mouse.
It will be called, sinaptics pointing device, for example. Hit enter on it
and a dialogue will come up, you'll be on the general page. Tab down until
you get to a radial button list of options and arrow down once. This should
select do not use this device. Then hit okay and you should be good to go.

I hope that helps.

Cameron.

Hi Friends,
I use Jaws 9 and I'm on the verge of buying a laptop. I have two
questions -- well, three if you count the one that goes, "What else am I
supposed to ask that I am not aware of?"
First, if I get one with a calculator, do I still set Jaws up using the
Laptop configuration?
Second, The mouse pads are in the front where I could easily touch them
accidentally. Is there a way around this?
Thanks
Donna
