Spring 2010.

Hello Performing Artists.

Our top story this season is the scholarship.  We have now chosen our very first scholarship winner.  The winner will be with us in Dallas this year, and be awarded 1000 dollars.  The scholarship ceremony will take place at the talent show.  We urge everybody to be there a little early so we can get started on time.  The talent show is on July 7 at 7PM.  The scholarship committee consisting of Lisa Ostrow, Romeo Edmead and Beth Alred did a great job running the selection process.  The winner will say a few words at the general meeting, and speak and the talent show.  We look forward to what will be a great time with our first Mary Anne Parks scholarship winner.

You can sign up for the talent show at the convention by contacting President Dennis Sumlin at convention, stopping by the exhibit table, or by calling 347 948-4445 starting July 3.  You have until the afternoon of July 6 to sign up.  

The division will also unveil another project.  In 2007, the division released Sound in Sight Vol 1.  In April, the board voted to begin the submission process for Sound in Sight Vol 2.  The submission process will begin on July 3, the beginning of the convention, and run until January 1, 2011.  This will give people 6 months to prepare and send in their professional recordings.  .  Those who can may bring their songs to the convention and give it to the division at that time.  You can submit it at the general meeting, the talent show, the exhibit table, or where ever you find a leadership member.  The leadership members that will be on hand are Dennis Sumlin, Jordy Stringer, Mindy Jacobsen, and Lisa Ostrow.  The songs should be under 5 minutes in length.  Other ways to submit recordings after the convention will be announced at the general meeting and talent show.  

This year, the division has welcomed our first 2 state affiliates.  The first affiliate is Georgia.  Derrick Tuff is the president of our Georgia affiliate.  There will be a charter awarded from the national performing arts in July, and a Georgia state charter in October at the Georgia state convention.  In Indiana, Board member Jordy Stringer has become president of the Indiana affiliate, and the same will take place for that state.

We will introduce our 10 year anniversary CD at the convention.  It is a CD of the best of the talent shows from the past.  You will be able to buy the CD on our exhibit table for $5.  We still will be selling the Sound in Sight Vol 1 album.  You can buy it for $8.  You can get both the anniversary CD and Sound in Sight Vol 1 as a package for $10.  We will be selling talent show tickets and other stuff on the table as well.   

At convention, we have our regular set of events.  The general meeting is on July 5, and the music tech workshop with Cameron Strife will be on July 6.  Jordy Stringer will conduct a meeting to talk about the future of the division on July 6, and the talent show will be on the 7.  Check the website for more details, and check the convention agenda for room numbers.

2010 is an election year, and all elective seats are up.  If you want to run or vote, you must become a member.  Membership dues are $5.  The division is putting together a new membership benefit package.  At the general meeting, you will here about the benefits you will get by being a member of the performing arts.
