Hello folks.
The division puts lots of time and effert into promoting the talents of
blind people. See, sound in Sight Volumes 1 and 2, and the Mary Anne Parks
scholarship.

A.
They're very well produced and something anyone could share with a
prospective recording agent or sell to promote the division. The productions
showcase the true talents and capabilities of the blind.

The talent show is just another way to enjoy the convention,
and the careers of blind people are not on the line.

A.
If the talent show was specifically an in-house event (Not available
online) this would be true. But once you begin broadcasting such events and
archive them on a Web site they become available to anyone wishing to hear
them hence the need for high-quality presentations. Can you be 100% sure
that a perspective blind entertainer who may have performed during the
talent showdidn't direct a potential employer to the divisions Web site only
to hear a substandard recording of this person's presentation. Can we be
sure that doesn't happen? The Web is an open destination for folks to obtain
information and hear sample presentations made by individuals seeking
employment of one kind or another. as a Webmaster I know this for a fact. It
does happen. Poorly produced presentations have jeopardized opportunities
for the sighted and can also do the same for the blind if care is not taken
to insure that any audio and video presentations produced that showcase the
talents of blind individuals are of the highest quality possible.

  If the division were to
get imagination fund money, we would put it towards projects that put blind
people out there in the mainstreem market.

A. If some of those projects involve creating presentations that showcase
the abilities of blind performers having the equipment to produce first-rate
presentations falls in with such an objective.

And I guess this talent show issue
just gives some people something to talk about.

And the beat goes on.....ever lasting.

A.
Take it from an NFB Webmaster who has seen the best and worst of Web
presentations created by members of this organization, and who helped clean
up a number of them so they honor our cause and help us change what it means
to be blind.

Hello Lisa and everyone,

And when the potential careers of blind performers are on the line that
funding must be found or the division should take advantage of free offers
of help when it is given. Two such offers have been made thus far.

If we had the funding to rent the equipment, such as stage monitors, we
surely would. It all comes down to funding, really.
