[Perform-talk] Talent Show?

The talent show was going on long before the division took it over. The
people who perform do not have to meet any particular standard to perform in
the show. Some people may have more talent than others, and the show is just
for people to have fun with. If the division was going to use the show to
promote people, then we would have to set up criteria. I do not think we
should change the nature of what is suppose to be fun into something
different. There are people who perform in the show who are not up to most
peoples idea of talent, but they just like to have fun. Should we tell
people who do not have talent that they cannot perform, or should we use the
talent show for what it was meant to be, and that is fun.

As far as the people who are speaking out on the list, we have excepted an
offer of a person who has some equipment to record the show. The reason that
I have taken the tone in witch I did, is because some are talking as if the
division has a hand in recording the show, and we do not. Anybody and
everybody can record the show, and the sound quality is not the fault of the
division.

If a person from Sony were to hear a recording and wanted to speak to a
particular person, the division would help them try and track the person
down, but we do not keep permanent files of who performs in the show. The
show is a laidback event that is meant for people to have fun, and for
people to support their friends and family. The money made from the show
goes toward our scholarship program.

Dennis:
With all due respect,
do you not realize how hypocritical the statement below sounds?
(I'm quoting here).

"…The talent show is just another way to enjoy the convention, and the
careers of blind people are not on the line."

How can they not be?
My reputation as an artist, our reputation as a division, and our NATIONAL
reputation are all 3 on the line when we perform live, specially when the
event is broadcast over the web.

Take it from one who is starting his career in the field of audio
production,
shall we slack ourselves and our standards because its "an in house event?"

What if we were to learn one day that so and so, a Sony producer or one of
those were going to listen in to our show?
Would we then triple our efforts?

Do you not realize that we must enforce these high standards on and off the
stage?
In and out of convention?

And do we not have the NATIONAL to help with these kinds of events?
We are not the "national federation of blind performers" we are a division
of the NATIONAL FEDERATION OF THE BLIND!!!

Are we not supposed to be the oldest,
the most powerful representative group for the blind, and by the same token,
are we not a division of such a group?

Do we not preach equality?

Do we not preach that we should show the best of ourselves?

Just because we find ourselves amongst our own people in convention is NO
EXCUSE for poor quality.

I don't care if only federationists listen to us, or if Sony listen to us.
Our standards should be the same.

And listen to your people… these are musicians, producers, audio personnel
complaining.

If it were some random federationist who has nothing to do with audio its
one thing, but we are a group of professionals in the field are we not?
And yet you ignore it as "talk?"
Shocking!!!
