Audacity is not a good app for multitrack recording in a studio environment. If you are a PC user, your best bets are Sonar 8.5, which has come down in price and may run you 2 to 3 hundred bucks, or Reaper, which is free, but has somewhat of a higher learning curve. Audacity doesn't afford us the same access with screen readers that something like Sonar or Reaper would. Sonar is generally only accessible using Jaws with either the Caketalking Scripts, which runs about $300, or JSonar, which is free. If you are a Mac user, Your best bet is Pro Tools or Garageband, depending on the kinds of projects you'll be working on. Pro Tools runs between 4 and 5 bills. Pro Tools 10 is out, so stores are trying to offload Pro Tools 9 like crazy. Garageband comes with most macs and has basic functionality for recording, editing, and mixing. Hope this sheds some light on this a little bit.
