[Perform-Talk] My First Theatre Audition

Hello Danielle,
I am a Soprano Singer and I have acted in operatic and musical theatre
productions. If the audition requires you to act the story rather than
just narrate it, you would be wise to incorporate a little bit of
movement. However, if you cannot move and perform convincingly at the
same time, make sure you stand well without any stiffness preceived by
your audience. The Whole point of moving is to communicate visually
with your audience to help make your performance believable visually
as well as aurally. If moving destracts you and reduces believability
from the rest of your performance, leave it out. I would add that if
you can move and make it look natural, you will appear to be the
better performer. Visually acting is something sighted performers have
problems with. We can suggest movements but only someone who can see
you will be able to help you look natural, whatever you decide to do.
Very best wishes,
Sandra.
