> The VSPS performance features Olga Drachuk-Meyer (Germany), Laura Katz Rizzo (USA), Irina Lerman (Canada), and Melissa Zuccalà (Italy) on Thursday, March 4th at 7PM ET. Installments continue on Thursday, April 1st and Thursday, May 6th, 2021. Applications are open for the Thursday, June 3rd installment here. Founded in 2010, MDD's Salon Performance Series provides a curated opportunity to view and engage with original dance and movement works-in-progress of guest artists. Each performance includes an audience exchange with the artists curated and facilitated by Mark DeGarmo, PhD, BFA.
>
> The VIA Festival on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday March 16-18, 2021 features 19 performing artists from 5 countries over the course of the three evening event. Founded in October 2020, MDD’s seasonal Virtual International Arts (VIA) Festival creates a space for artists, scholars, and audiences to share, respond, and reflect beyond traditional, commercial performance spaces that often exclude people and limit access.
>
> Audience members from the January 7, 2021 VSPS installment called the event “uplifting,” and said of the virtual experience, “I’m sitting here in my apartment, but I feel all the movement, thousands of miles away.” The February 4 installment moved audiences to tears and to question the USA’s privilege and current political conflicts with performances reflecting people living with the aftermath of armed conflict, extreme poverty, genocide, and political violence in Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.

> Mark DeGarmo Dance recognizes the impact of COVID-19 on global artists and our NYC, national, and international communities and is committed to offering opportunities for artists to share and develop their work, despite and responding to our current circumstances. Featuring international dance creators, including artists creating in countries without the USA’s resources and privilege is meant to stimulate among New York City and USA general public members a deeper awareness and understanding of other countries and cultures they have not visited or know. Through virtual programming and online events, MDD connects the embodied imaginations of an international arts, scholar, and general community for social change.
