Dear Melissa,

I've heard about you from somewhere but can't really pinpoint where!
(smile) Welcome to our list! It's great to see you here and I look forward
to walking along with you on the performing arts journey! I love sharing my
work in this space, especially helping those interested in audio recording,
as I have fumbled my way through it for a few years and think I finally have
a little bit of an idea of what I am doing. If you have not yet done so and
want to begin dipping your toes into that space - or diving in headfirst -I
would be more than happy to share what I have learned in my trial & error!

I use a digital audio workstation (DAW) called reaper. It is almost
fully accessible out of the download with a couple free plugin that make it
talk. It is free to download and evaluate for 60 days but, truth be told,
the 60 day free trial is on the honor system. Unlike many other DAW free
trials, though, it never loses its functionality while you are using the
free trial. When you are ready to purchase it, it is a measly $65. In
addition to Reaper, you will need to get the free SWS (Standing Water
Studios) extension and OSARA (Open Source Application for the Reaper
Application). The only other gear you will need is a microphone and I
recommend a digital audio interface. I use a very simple 2-channel interface
in my studio - the FocusRite Scarlet 2I2. You can often find great deals on
a combo package of an interface and good quality microphone for about the
same price as you might expect to pay for either. I think I bought mine in
2016 for about $300. The package came with a Blue Bird large diaphragm
condenser microphone. I have attached a sample of one of my studio
recording using that combination.

If you - or anyone else on this list -ever want to learn the basics
ofReaper, I am more than happy to share that with you. Likewise, if anyone
has some recordings they need some guidance on, I am more than happy to
share what I know. There is also a great discussion list of blind engineers
using Reaper, called Reapers Without Peepers (RWP), can find at

I look forward to sharing more with everyone on this list!

Peace!
Marion Gwizdala

Subject: [Perform-Talk] Introduction

Hello everyone,

Many of you may know me, but let me introduce myself. My name is Melissa
Riccobono, and I live in MD with my husband and our three children. I have
been a singer my whole life, but really began to sing seriously in middle
school and beyond. I have recently begun to play the autoharp, and am really
looking forward to being able to have an instrument to play while I sing. I
may even begin to compose my own songs, as I have certainly written poetry
from time to time, and have written a few songs in my head over the years. I
also have an idea for a musical. Perhaps I will get that put onto paper
someday.

In addition to all of these performing outlets, I am interested in taking
improv classes, and will probably do that in the next year. I also am
beginning to learn a lot about audio recording, editing, and restoration.
This has fascinated me for years, but I am finally in a place where I can
devote time to it.

I would love to network with other singers, autoharp players (if there are
any on the list) and also those who do audio work of any kind, and/or
podcast or voice over work, audio book narration, etc. These are other areas
I am very interested in.

You can reach me off list at

I look forward to hearing from all of you, being a member of this list, and,
I hope, helping with future Performing Arts Division projects.

Melissa
