Thanks for recommending Liblouis, Ella.
After looking into both the BANA Braille Music Code and Liblouis, I
think it's best for DottedNotes to only support Grade 1 UEB for now. It
is the default for vocal lyrics according to BANA 35.1.1. Contracted UEB
is only allowed for the narrow cases of chants, hymnals, school
materials for grades 1-6, and upon user request (which still requires an
uncontracted transcript to be included in the preliminary pages).
DottedNotes converts individual musical scores a composer produces for
performance or publication, and grade 1 is the rule BANA specifies to
handle such material. However, DottedNotes does support parsing of
accented letters in foreign words inside an otherwise-English lyric,
since it's covered by UEB's bounded accent-modifier system.
Incorporating the 150-table set from Liblouis would pull in a large
external c-library dependency to cover contraction rules and
per-language alphabets BANA doesn't sanction for DottedNotes' actual use
case.
