We are having a very special event in February that I thought some of
you
might be interested in coming to.<br>
<br>
We are having a concert on February 15th, and it's a musical event
which
is our response to California's Proposition 8 and similar marriage bans
around the country. Since so many people's arguments in favor of
banning gay marriage are about "protecting the children" ticket
proceeds for this concert will go to the Hetrick-Martin Institute
(<a moz-do-not-send="true" href="http://www.hmi.org/" eudora="autourl">http://www.hmi.<wbr>org</a>),
an organization that has programs to nurture and support lesbian, gay,
bisexual, and transgender youth. Since this falls on Valentine's
Weekend, we will be performing music that communicates the importance
of
love in gay relationships. We are very fortunate that the composer
Lowell Liebermann is performing is quartet for piano and strings with
members of our ensemble on the concert.<br>
<br>
We will also be performing scenes from the opera "Patience and
Sarah" an opera about a love story between two women by Paula Kimper
and Wende Persons which premiered at Lincoln Center in 1998. It is
one of the only lesbian operas in existence. Paula has made a
special arrangement of the scenes for our ensemble for the concert, and
both she and the librettist will be there to speak about the piece.
