Hi,
How about using hand under hand guidance.  Since he is autistic he may not 
understand verbal instructions.  So probably best thing is hands on.  Show 
him the different utensils and explain that a fork is different than a 
knife.  Model how to hold the utensil and he can touch your hand to see the 
placement.  Go slowly.
