Sara,

I'm no expert in teaching and seldom post here for that reason, but this is an issue that I have been following. This
announcement is not just a declaration that braille has changed. There will be work done as to how exactly this change will be
implemented. Also, as you probably know, the intent is to continue using the Nemeth Code for math and science texts. There is no
doubt that it will take some time for those who transcribe braille to understand the changes, but reading UEB for literary
braille, as this announcement advocates be the case, is not that difficult in my experience. In addition, some of the braille
translation software already has the ability to create UEB text. I do not mean to imply that some work won't be required, but
there will evolve over time a clearer path to follow.

Change is not easy, but many may not realize the significant changes we have already managed to survive over the past fifty years
where braille is concerned. If we pull together and help one another, this will work out all right.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson
