I am a sighted TVI that would recommend the Enabling Technologies Romeo Pro-50. It talks, has Braille on the keys and it's easy to use with only the need to memorize a few commands. It takes 8 1/2 inch paper as well as 11 1/2 inch.  It's rugged and some what portable as it does come with a handled lid that snaps onto the base.

I just looked, online, and the cost is $2,995 with $95 shipping.
