Starting salary will be between $19.00 - $24.00 per hour, plus excellent benefits. Additional compensation up to $2.97 per hour may be given for relevant credits beyond a Bachelor's degree. A six-month probationary period will be required. This position is in pay schedule 13, pay range 04.

The Department of Public Instruction, Wisconsin Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired<http://www.wcbvi.k12.wi.us/> (WCBVI) is currently seeking applicants for a full-time, year-round Orientation and Mobility Teacher position in their Outreach department. This position is located at 1700 W State Street, Janesville.

The WCBVI operates a residential school for state residents ages birth to twenty-one who are blind or have visual impairments. The school provides academic and career education on site. The WCBVI Statewide Outreach team<http://www.wcbvi.k12.wi.us/outreach> offers instructional and technical assistance, teaching materials and evaluations of pupils at the request of local school districts and other agencies.
Job Duties:
This full-time, year round position is part of the Outreach department's Short Course Instructional team with the Wisconsin Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired (WCBVI). The position provides 1:1 and group instruction to students who are blind or visually impaired, ages 3-21, including those with additional disabilities during the school year and for summer programs. Responsibilities include evaluating student skills and needs; preparing measurable goals and objectives; following through with instruction; completing progress reports; and consulting/collaborating with WCBVI staff, other professionals, and parents to ensure that all student needs are communicated and met. The position may travel to local school districts to perform assessments and share/gain information from local staff, and transition students in and out of their home district. As directed, it also provides orientation & mobility evaluations and consultations at the request of local education agencies (LEAs).
Special Notes:
Licensure or eligibility for licensure in Orientation and Mobility (826) with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction is required.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of: child development and movement; effects of vision loss on travel skills; effects of additional disabilities on travel skills and learning modes; individualized teaching approaches used to maximize student potential, especially in the areas of the expanded core curriculum; current orientation and mobility practices, philosophies, and innovations; tools used in orientation and mobility including canes, low vision aids, tactile maps, etc.; state and federal laws related to the education of students who are blind or visually impaired; tools and methods for assessing student skill level in orientation and mobility; and techniques and strategies for developing and recommending measurable annual goals for students who are blind or visually impaired in orientation and mobility.

Ability to: work with wide variety of ages/abilities and work as a member of a team to meet student needs.

Skill in: effective oral and written communication.
