Hi Kaiti,
I know this wasn't the announcement that was made at the convention. However, please feel free to visit the Seedlings Braille Books for Children website http://www.seedlings.org/special.php. On that page you will find a link to the Book Angel Program. Seedlings gives visually impaired children in the US and Canada two free books per year.
I noticed that you are from Ohio. Seedlings also has a program called "Adopt-A-Reader" that would be available to the little girl you're tutoring. For that program her parents would need to fill out the form indicating she is interested in becoming an adopted reader. She would be matched with a donor. Once adopted by a donor she would receive a $100 gift certificate to pick books from the Seedlings catalog.

I hope this helps!
Thanks for helping this little one on the road to literacy!

 Subject: [Pibe-division] Free braille books

Hi, everyone,

At convention there were announcements to see Pat Maurer in the back
of sessions for information on how to get free braille books for
children.  I'm tutoring a little girl in braille this summer who I
think would benefit from this program, but I wasn't able to get back
there myself.  If anyone was able to get that information and can
share that with me I would appreciate it.  I've tried looking for a
web page on nfbnet.org but can't seem to find what I'm looking for.
