Chris,

As Greg indicated, many schools require the Praxis 1 (or "Praxis Core")
courses as a prerequisite to taking education classes. Please note the
following:

1. The Praxis 1/Core courses do not test your ability to test the subject;
they test your knowledge of the subject: "*Praxis*® *Core* Academic Skills
for Educators (*Core*) Tests measure academic skills in reading, writing
and mathematics. These tests were designed to provide comprehensive
assessments that measure the skills and content knowledge of candidates
entering teacher preparation programs."

2. Most, if not all, states require passage of Praxis 1/Core general tests
as well as Praxis 2 content-specific assessments before issuing a teaching
license. Thus, the schools are doing students a favor by requiring the
passage of these tests earlier rather than later. (I have known individuals
who did fine in school but could not pass one or mor ePraxis exams. These
individuals ended up with a degree in teaching but could not get a teaching
license--NOT a great situation after four hard years of work.)
