Maybe you could set a goal/plan specifically target that behavior. Set up your plan with the student and the classroom teacher so that everyone knows the expectations. Figure out what type of motivation works best for the child and reward good behavior (not tearing things up). You may have to start small (with only a few occurrences of ripping) and build up to seldom/none hopefully.
