The below research participant solicitation is being provided for informational purposes only. The National Federation of the Blind has no involvement in this research, but we believe that it may contribute to our research mission.
Are you (or do you know) a blind or low-vision student whose school uses technology for teaching and learning? Is some of that technology hard or impossible for you to use due to accessibility barriers? Your story could help change educators’ and technologists’ ideas about accessible technology. Previous research<http://hdl.handle.net/11603/17533> has shown that blind people’s stories helped to change educators’ hearts and minds about accessible technology.
Dr. Natalie Shaheen<https://nlshaheen.com/>, Assistant Professor of special education at Illinois State University and former Director of Education for the National Federation of the Blind, is doing research to gather blind and low-vision students’ (age 13-22) stories about using accessible and inaccessible technology at school. Dr. Shaheen will share the results of the research with educators and technologists to, hopefully, begin to change some of the technology practices in education and increase disabled students’ access.
