<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2> As an experiment, I
downloaded a Cam Jansen book and a Little House Chapter book from Bookshare. I
donloaded both the DAISY and BRF files.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2> The .brf file versions
looked usable, but they lack things like braille page numbers and running
titles. If run through an embosser, there won't be breaks between the front
matter and the text.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2> Using Duxbury 10.6, I
imported the DAISY .xml file. Duxbury recognized it and I think improved the
formatting. To create a better formatted book, a parent or teacher might want to
insert the Duxbury codes for forcing a page and possibly the running title. Hope
this helps.</FONT></DIV>

<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Carlton,</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>We've only downloaded and embossed one book from
Bookshare. It was a middle school level book and it was in good
shape. I think there is a comment spot that gives the braille
quality for each book. Another place to download free books is the TSBVI
website <A
href="http://www.tsbvi.edu/braille/braillebooks.htm">http://www.tsbvi.edu/braille/braillebooks.htm</A>.
These aren't guaranteed either. When we download braille, I ask my son
to read carefully and let me know if there are any problems so we can report
them to the people who created the book. He takes great pleasure in
finding other people's mistakes (I guess because people are so free with
telling him HIS mistakes!). I think it makes him a more careful
reader. We've never found anything that had big problems in
it.</FONT></DIV>

Question</DIV>
<DIV><BR></DIV>Hi all,<BR><BR>I have a dumb question, but here goes . .
.<BR><BR>How difficult is it to get a good braille hard copy from a
Bookshare BRF file?<BR><BR>I'm asking because we have waited almost an
entire week to get a braille hard copy of a Cam Jansen book from the
school. an aide was typing in the print (don't know why they can't
scan, but there you go) and the TVI was translating using Duxbury and
printing to a Juliet on-site. I just looked up the book and found that
the BRF (and the Daisy) files are available from Bookshare. Is there a
good reason to type the whole thing in instead of using a Bookshare
file? should I assume that the teacher didn't look for the Bookshare
file? (She has her own account, as does my daughter).<BR><BR>If
possible, I'd really like to know before I speak to her this afternoon when
I pick Anna Catherine up from school.<BR><BR>Please feel free to email or
call me directly.<BR><BR><BR>I truly appreciate your wisdom on this matter
(and others, of course).<BR><BR><BR><BR>Take care,<BR><BR><BR>Carlton<BR
