Sarah, I think you need to change some of the settings to get the best scan in either Kurzweil or Open Book. It takes some practice. I have used Kurzweil for over 15 years and find it very easy to scan a document. It can also scan a pdf file that cannot be recognized by the screen readers. I don't know if Open Book can do that or not. I guess my first question would be what will be you be scanning most of the time and then try both products to see which gives you the best results.

Hi:

I've already tried out the demonstrations of two
popular ocr software for the blind which are: open book from Freedom Scientific
and Kurzweill 1000. 1. What are other peoples impressionof each ocr product for
the blind in terms of accuracy of scanning and ocr recognition of printed
material? 2. Have other blind people tried to use microsoft scanning program? If
anyone has used this program how does this program work with the ocr recognition
feature?

My initial impressions of the blindness ocr
products are the following: Regarding open book, I have found it easier to learn
how to scan a document and save the document in various formats. Regarding
Kurzweill 1000, I have it initially a bit more difficult to understand how to
scan a documen and save a document. Regarding the accuracy of recognition, I
find either product despite the specific ocr recognition software doesn't
provide a good record of accurately recognizing the texton a book that is
pprinted.

Regarding microsoft scanning, I've learnt how to
scan a document but don't know what to do to ensure that the words are
recognized upon scanning in a printed page. I've already enabled ocr
recognition.
