Yeshiva University and the Edward and Robin Milstein Professor of Bioethics,
passed away on the morning of November 19.<span id="yiv8820243760more-15433"></span></div>
<div>Asch taught courses at Wurzweiler School of Social Work, Cardozo School of
Law, and Albert Einstein College of Medicine on bioethics, reproductive rights,
professional ethics, and disability. She was a prolific scholar and engaged
activist. Her sharp mind and her love of ideas will be sorely missed by her
colleagues at Yeshiva University.</div>
<div>Asch’s work focused on the ethical, political, psychological and social
implications of human reproduction and the family. She authored numerous
articles and book chapters and was the co-editor of <i>Prenatal Testing and
Disability Rights</i> and <i>The Double-Edged Helix: Social Implications of
Genetics in a Diverse Society</i>.</div>
<div>Asch received her doctorate in social psychology from Columbia University and
was a member of the board of the American Society for Bioethics and Humanities;
the Clinton Task Force on Health Care Reform; and the Ethical, Legal, and Social
Implications Policy Planning Group of the National Human Genome Research
Institute. She was a board member of the Society of Jewish Ethics and the
American Civil Liberties Union, a fellow at the Hastings Center and a member of
the New York State Task Force on Life and the Law.</div>
<div>“Adrienne and I both began our tenure at YU in 2005,” said Dr. Carmen Ortiz
Hendricks, the Dorothy and David I. Schachne Dean of Wurzweiler. “We frequently
collaborated and she wanted very much to establish a biomedical ethics
certificate within the MSW program. Adrienne was brilliant. She was trying to
finish her book on reproductive rights before her impending death. She will be
missed by many friends and colleagues.”</div>
