I used Travelocity to book my airline for the national convention. As an organization that discusses accessibility issues and concerns, I would like to highlight that out of the major following websites, Travelocity was the most user-friendly. In addition, there customer service is also understanding of populations with disabilities as well. When navigating expedia.com, orbits.com, hotwire.com, and priceline.com, Travelocity.com proved to be the most user-friendly with assistive technology. For those who do not use it, it is laid out in a basic HTML format with user friendly combo boxes and labeled checkboxes as well as simple grid-like tables. Also, if a graphic was read by Jaws, it would say graphic and then the text under the graphic. In other words, you would not hear the annoying “graphic 123” saying that you here on most sights.
Finally, when concluding the booking of the trip, I telephoned Travelocity and spoke to one of the representatives since a small glitch with the computer came up. The representative was understanding and waited for me to complete the process online. The representative informed me that if one is disabled, they will wave the $20.00 telephone booking fee if you are having issues navigating and utilizing the website.
As an organization, we should also take time to commend groups that make the effort to accommodate our needs without having to be forced or litigated.
