Blindness: Learning In New Dimensions (BLIND), 
Inc. in Minneapolis, MN is seeking a Network 
Administrator\Webmaster.  To apply, please send a

Position Description: Network Administrator/Webmaster
Blindness Learning In New Dimensions (BLIND), Inc.

Blindness: Learning In New Dimensions (BLIND), 
Inc. is a nonprofit adjustment to blindness 
training center located just south of downtown 
Minneapolis, Minnesota.  It is nationally, and to 
some extent internationally, known for its 
effective training of blind people ages 9 through 
senior citizen, and for its innovative programs 
and approaches, including the only integrated 
ELL/adjustment to blindness training program in 
the country, and the Code Master Braille training program.

Job Purpose: Keeps BLIND, Inc.’s operating 
systems, LAN, hardware and software, and social 
media in excellent up-to-date operating 
condition, with enhancements as needed, Maintains 
computing environment by identifying network 
requirements; installing upgrades; monitoring 
network performance.  Provides ongoing analysis 
and monitoring of Internet sites. Gathers 
information and makes decisions relating to LAN 
issues.  Designs, upgrades, and ensures security 
relating to Internet presence. Provides for 
stable and high-speed connectivity to existing 
network. Maintains BLIND, Inc.’s social media 
sites like Facebook and Twitter.  Provides 
helpdesk support to staff and students.

Job Duties:  Establishes network specifications 
by conferring with users; analyzing workflow, 
access, information, and security requirements; 
designing router administration, including 
interface configuration and routing 
protocols.  Establishes network by evaluating 
network performance issues including 
availability, utilization, throughput, goodput, 
and latency; planning and executing the 
selection, installation, configuration, and 
testing of equipment; defining network policies 
and procedures; establishing connections and 
firewalls.  Maintains network performance by 
performing network monitoring and analysis, and 
performance tuning; troubleshooting network problems.

Secures network by developing network access, 
monitoring, control, and evaluation; maintaining 
documentation.  Prepares users by designing and 
conducting training programs; providing 
references and support.  Upgrades network by 
conferring with vendors; developing, testing, 
evaluating, and installing enhancements.  Meets 
financial requirements by submitting information 
for budgets; monitoring expenses.  Updates job 
knowledge by participating in educational 
opportunities; reading professional publications; 
maintaining personal networks; participating in 
professional organizations.  Protects 
organization's value by keeping information confidential.

Develops, maintains, and provides support on 
Internet sites and web servers. Responsible for 
DNS server and DNS naming structure.  Insures 
that all Internet Standards, especially 
accessibility for blind users are met and that 
BLIND, Inc. does not violate any standards that 
would place our domain in jeopardy.  Maintains 
and Administers Internal and Internet POP mail 
servers.  Maintains and administers all legal 
Internet domains owned by BLIND, Inc.  Uses 
technology to provide staff with a fast, 
accurate, and secure method of gaining access to 
information, so they can service clients in the 
fastest and most efficient manner possible.

Promotes BLIND, Inc. on Facebook, Twitter and 
other social media sites.  Figures out creative 
ways to enhance our media presence in order to 
communicate our message, recruit new students, 
and raise funds through donations.  Provides 
itinerant and on-site assistive technology 
instruction.  Carries out other duties as 
assigned including assisting and acting as a role model on center activities.

Skills/Qualifications: LAN Knowledge, Network 
Design and Implementation, Problem Solving, 
Strategic Planning, Multi-tasking, Quality Focus, 
Coordination, Technical Understanding, 
Understands and can utilize assistive technology 
for the blind at an expert level.  Quick Study, 
Technical Zeal. Ability to work well with 
internal and external clients on a human as well 
as a technical basis.  This is a job for a 
technologist with good people skills who can deal 
successfully with individuals with a wide range 
of computer abilities.  Patience and a sense of 
humor are essential in this job, as is the 
ability to explain things in the way that a layperson can understand.

Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in 
Computer Science from an accredited college or 
university; or equivalent education/experience in the computer field.
Extensive experience with WordPress.
Extensive experience in Windows and Macintosh network administration.
Extensive experience using non-visual technology 
such as JAWS for Windows, NVDA, WindowEyes, and VoiceOver for Mac OS.
Extensive experience in using and supporting Windows OS, Mac OS, and iOS.
Two years of web server management/development experience preferred.
Extensive experience with PHP and HTML programming preferred.

Other Requirements: Willingness to believe in 
blind people as competent, effective individuals 
who, with the right kind of training, can 
function on a par with sighted 
individuals.  Willingness to undergo a period of 
staff orientation and training.  Willingness to 
commit at least two years to the job.
