Peter, Mike Townsend here. I'm a Seeing Eye handler who was on top of the
story fro the get-go. I know the handler and where the accident happened.
Bob Wilson has determined that this was not a hybrid, based on his
conversations with a county representative of Morris, further, dodge
Avengers are sedans which are not hybrids, nor will they be so equipped as
they are being discontinued in the not too distant future under Chrysler's
revamping by Fiat, the Italian carmaker who now has taken over the reigns of
Chrysler as it purchased controlling stock in the automaker last spring
through bankruptcy proceedings.
Thanks for asking.
However, regardless of the propulsion efforts, hybrid, diesel, regular
gasoline power or any combination thereof, it does not absolve either the
driver or pedestrian, regardless of ability or disability to keep themselves
properly aware of all surroundings when traveling.
This means no cellular phone chatter while walking or driving, paying
attention to surroundings for noise or visual cues, minding rules of the
road on both pedestrian or driver's parts, and for the pedestrian, wearing
colors that can be seen, and if at all possible dawning reflective gear at
night to assist drivers to see pedestrians, and affixing LED lights to our
dogs' harnesses.

Hello Robert and listers,
But was this vehicle a hybrid or a conventional automobile. The article
fails to mention the vehicle type. If it was a hybrid we have more
amunission for our initiative to insure these vehicles make noise so they
can be heard by the blind and others.

Hi,
I've been tracking pedestrian accidents and on December 20, there was a
report of a blind pedestrian with a seeing eye dog:
"MORRISTOWN -- A Morris County assistant prosecutor was issued a
summons for striking a blind woman as he drove his car out of the
county administration building in Morristown, authorities said.
The woman suffered a leg injury. Her guide dog was not hurt.
Assistant Prosecutor Leslie Wade was issued a summons in the mail
for the Dec. 18 incident, which happened just before 5 p.m., at the
intersection of Schuyler Place and Ann Street, according to a release
from Morris County Prosecutor Robert Bianchi.
The 48-year-old woman was taken to Morristown Memorial Hospital, where she
was treated and released. Her name was not given.
She was hit after just stepping off the curb to cross the roadway, according
to the prosecutor's office.
Wade, who is a supervising assistant prosecutor, stopped the county
vehicle and called police to report the accident and request medical
attention. The Morris County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations
Section responded at the request of the prosecutor's office to
photograph and document the scene.. . ."

I called the Morristown police department and the clerk read from the
accident report the vehicle make and model: Dodge, Avenger, black. This is a
3,355 pound, sedan that is part of the Morris County car pool.
