[Quietcars] What should Ford's new Focus EV sound like?, Autoblog Green, June 23, 2011

Fair point, Lloyd.  It is a trade off, and sometimes we need additional sound from an internal combustion vehicle when the driver can come at us from a quiet status stopped position too.  I would be glad to have all vehicles to sound off at such times.  Kenf.

I think that some of the proposed sounds are more high-tech than necessary.
They seem to be over-engineered and over-branded.

But your proposal has one deficiency.  I believe that it is desirable that
cars make some sound while stopped, whenever they are "ready to roll" in a
few seconds.  In other words, if a car is parked, there is no need for
sound.  But once a driver is in position and has "started" the car, whether
waiting at a traffic light or waiting before turning into a driveway, there
should be some sound during this stationary phase.  The stationary vehicle
that is about to cross your path is just as dangerous as the slowly moving
vehicle.
