I have been asked to post two openings at Criss Cole for supervisor positions.  One for the career guidance department and the other for adaptive skills (Braille, daily living skills and so forth in this department).  Austin is a great place to live and work. Job Description:
Manager I The Career Guidance Supervisor is hired by and reports to the Manager of Counseling, Career Guidance and Technology and performs work involving the management of the Career Guidance Department at the Criss Cole Rehabilitation Center, a residential training center for adults who are blind. This position is responsible for supervising Career Guidance Instructors, program coordinators, human services specialists and program development/implementation with a focus on employment outcome and working with DBS in its Employment Refocus throughout the state. Duties include: providing supervision to department staff whose goal is to assist consumers to obtain the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to gain employment.; developing and refining program curriculum; evaluating the effectiveness of department training services provided to consumers; performing complex managerial work overseeing the daily operations and activities of Career Guidance program(s); establishing goals and objectives; developing guidelines, procedures; developing schedules, priorities, and standards for achieving established goals; coordinating and evaluating program activities; and developing and evaluating budget requests; collaborating with Texas Workforce Commission staff statewide and with DBS statewide staff to ensure availability of resources and knowledge needed by consumers who are blind to seek and retain competitive employment. Works under moderate supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Essential Job Functions:
Manages departmental personnel functions, including recruitment, interviewing, hiring, training of staff; evaluates staff performance, recommends salary upgrades, documents deficiencies, develops plans of action, and recommends probation and termination in accordance with performance management and HHSC/DARS/DBS policy and procedures. 40% Establishes, monitors, reviews and evaluates the development and delivery of consumer employment training objectives and employment focused programs within the Career Guidance Department and readiness of consumers for Career Center focus to ensure quality services, efficient use of resources through budget development and monitoring, and effective support of consumer competitive employment goals. 20% Initiate direct contact with business employers and maintaining ongoing contact with the business employers in the community and statewide. 10% Coordinates the compilation and analysis of input and information from the field on program effectiveness and innovation related to consumer readiness for employment goals, academic training, etc. 10% Initiates and promotes Career Guidance program services including integration of Technology training within the context of Career Development, the Work Experience Program, in partnership with field counselors and staff including conducting Job Readiness Clinics and Employment related workshops for consumers in DBS regions statewide. 10% Maintains current knowledge of employment trends as they relate to persons who are blind, business relationships, local, state and federal employment, job and career data as well as statewide Worksource programs in collaboration with DBS Employment Assistance specialists; shares data with DBS staff, and makes recommendations for program improvement based on current information. 10%
Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of the vocational rehabilitation process, with special knowledge in the field of rehabilitation of the blind. Thorough knowledge of HHSC/DARS/DBS policies and procedures and Federal and State of Texas laws, policies and procedures related to persons with disabilities, and particularly persons who are blind including the American's with Disabilities Act. Thorough knowledge of current federal, state and local employment trends, as well as business practices, technology and accessibility issues pertinent to competitive employment of the blind. Thorough knowledge of management principles and practices, including planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating professional and support staff, including program directors, project managers, and instructional staff. Skill in electronic report and record maintenance principles and practices, and the development of electronic data gathering and maintenance tools. Skill in clearly expressing ideas, instructions, training materials and reports orally and in writing. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective cross functional, integrated working relationships with consumers, departmental staff, Center and other DBS staff, outside agencies and the business community. Brief Job Description: The Adaptive Skills Supervisor is hired by and reports to the Manager of Training Services. The Adaptive Skills Supervisor provides leadership in the daily operations and activities of Adaptive Skills Department and support of the Texas Confidence Builder's philosophy and blind training services offered to consumers and staff at CCRC. Employees in this class oversees the delivery of training to consumers for development and mastery of confidence in Basic Blindness Skills related to daily independent living skills. Position reviews and evaluates consumer, staffing, funding, program, and performance in relation to established agency goals and objectives. Incumbent leads in the innovation and resourcefulness of program development and implementation. Responsible for establishing program goals, objectives, developing priorities and standards for achieving program goals. Responsible for developing, evaluating and management of budget for department. Responsible for the plans, assignments and supervision/management of staff under direct supervision, collaborates with other Center departments to promote the Texas Confidence builder's philosophy and facilitate empowerment. Supervises direct service staff and supervisory staff for the purpose of providing assistance in service delivery and specialized areas.
