university with a master’s degree in rehabilitation, rehabilitation
teaching or therapy, guidance and/or counseling, psychology,
sociology, orientation and mobility, social work, special education,
education with emphasis in vocational counseling or a related field.
Minimum Requirement - Primary Experience : Must have two years of
professional experience in vocational rehabilitation, vocational
assessment, employer relations or rehabilitation technology.
Substitution Clause : EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: A bachelor’s degree in
one of the above areas plus two years of professional experience in
vocational rehabilitation, vocational assessment, employer relations
or rehabilitation technology will substitute for the required master’s
degree.

Description of Vacancy's Duties : Vocational Rehabilitation Program
Specialist II - Grade 13 - This position provides training to
consumers in Adult Education either individually or in a classroom
setting. Makes recommendations for training modifications, hours, and
methods to meet the individual needs of persons with significant
disabilities. Documents work with students and students' progress
through progress notes, evaluation reports, monthly progress reports,
and training reports. Prepares evaluation and training reports,
correspondence and attends meetings to provide recommendations for
future rehabilitation planning. Coordinates and Performs reporting
activities relating to funding grant from KY Adult Education,
including participating in Ky Adult Education (KYAE) training events
and meetings. Reviews and evaluates medical, psychological, vocational
and other reports. Develops individual training plans including
training, training modifications, technical aids and devices and other
necessary vocational rehab services. Serves on inter-disciplinary team
to provide professional input regarding the development of plans to
enable students to meet their vocational and independent living goals
through meetings of the Voc. Prep. Unit staff and through student
staffing conferences. Serves as resource person for community based
organizations involved in services for the disabled. Provides
technical expertise to the general public as to specialized skill
areas. Enters new and updated information into KYAE data tracking
system (AERIN). Tracks student attendance hours, enrolls students in
KYAE through AERIN after testing, interviewing, and instruction.
Tracks student Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) scores to measure
academic progress. Participates in mandatory KYAE professional
development training. Markets Adult Educ class to OFB consumers and
Voc. Rehab. counselors. Maintains a close working relationship with
KYAE program support staff. Maintains files on student activities,
attendance and progress in classes, including daily progress notes.
Selection Method : Qualifying: All candidates who apply and meet the
minimum requirements are eligible for placement on the register for
hiring consideration.
Group : VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION
Characteristics of the Class : Performs independent professional
vocational rehabilitation functions such as vocational or technology
assessments, rehabilitation technology, job development and job
placement, supported employment, vocational evaluation, rehabilitation
instruction, basic public relations and/or marketing functions in a
rehabilitation program; and performs other duties as required.
Typical Working Conditions and Unique Physical Requirements : Work is
performed primarily in an office setting. Occasional travel will be
required to coordinate services between customers and the agency.
Additional Requirements : Applicants and employees in this
classification may be required to submit to a drug screening test and
background check.
