Orientation & Mobility
and
Personnel Preparation Teacher Of Children With Visual And Multiple Impairments
SALUS UNIVERSITY
COLLEGE OF EDUCATION AND REHABILITATION
A Tenure Track, Full-Time Position- Assistant or Associate Professor in College of Education and Rehabilitation (CER) is available. The positions includes coordinating and teaching responsibilities in Orientation and Mobility (O&M) and Professional Preparation Program for Teachers of Children with Visual and Multiple Impairments (TVI).
Primary function is to coordinate individual program of studies, teach, supervise and advise students in both the O&M and TVI Programs. Both the O&M and TVI programs have program directors and teaching staff. This position will increase capability of both O&M and TVI programs. The individual will be expected to participate fully as a faculty member of the College of Education and Rehabilitation and requires on-campus presence in Elkins Park, PA.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities Include:
· 100 % FTE as faculty member
· Teaching responsibilities in O&M and TVI Programs
· Assist in preparation of proposals and secure funding for O&M and TVI Programs
· Assist in preparation of federal reports
· Conduct research and prepare reports
· Publish professional materials such as peer reviewed articles, chapters in relevant textbooks
· Develop and provide professional presentations at state, regional and national conferences
· Assist in the preparation of accreditation and other reports
· Collect and report programmatic data
· Supervise student interns
· Serve on various college and department committees
· Travel and active participation in National, regional and state conferences and meetings
· Other related duties as assigned, e.g., may be assigned specific responsibilities with National Leadership Consortium in Sensory Disabilities, within other CER programs depending on knowledge and experience of candidate.
Educational Experience Required:
Master’s degree required in the field of blindness and visual impairment
Certification as Orientation and Mobility Specialist and/or Certificate as Teacher
of Children with Visual Impairments
Experience in teaching in the field of blindness and visual impairment
Experience working with and collaborating with consumers who are blind or visually impaired
Superior and demonstrated written, oral communication and organizational skills
Experience working with diverse populations
Experience with working with teams and collaborative efforts
Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Doctorate in the field of Blindness and Visual Impairment
Additional related certifications: Low Vision, Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Early Childhood, Multiple Disabilities, etc.
Experience working with individuals who are blind or visually impaired with multiple disabilities
Experience in teaching within Higher Education
Demonstrated success at securing federal and/or private grants
Experience in administration
Experience working with individuals with deafblindness
Experience in project management, including fiscal responsibilities
Experience and interest in international work
Position Available:
Immediately, most preferred start date is June 2010. Position will remain open until filled.
