EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: A bachelor's degree in one of the above areas

Description of Job Duties

Evaluates, plans, and trains blind/visually impaired consumers in home
management skills, orientation, and pre-cane skills. Maintains a
caseload of 80-100 individuals; counsels consumers & families on
blindness skills and resources; assists in the development of peer
counseling for consumers; interprets medical information to determine
eligibility for Independent Living consumers and for other community
services. Travels to consumers home to conduct assessment and training
within 12 county area; develops referral sources & provides public
relations activities for community awareness; develops and maintains
case documentation on consumers and prepares reports regarding consumers
to VR Counselors and other referral sources. Enters data into the Case
Management System for tracking, monitors caseload budget, and maintains
and orders supplies for the Independent Living inventory.

Qualifying: All candidates who apply and meet the minimum requirements
are eligible for placement on the register for hiring consideration.

Determines eligibility for persons for vocational rehabilitation
services and provides vocational rehabilitation services to persons with
disabilities seeking gainful employment; and performs other duties as
required.

Typical Working Conditions and Unique Physical Requirements :

Work is performed primarily in an office setting. Occasional travel will
be required to coordinate services between customers and the agency.
