The Southern Arizona Association for the Visually Impaired (SAAVI) is
seeking the following positions to serve in our Phoenix training center.

 

Access Technology specialist.

BASIC JOB SUMMARY:  

Provide center-based and community individual and group instruction in
access technology with off the shelf and specialized computer
software/hardware.   Focus includes speech output, low vision, Braille
output, or a combination of techniques. Facilitate worksite
evaluation/modification, community workshops and community and home based
training.  Develop and ensure ongoing structure and competencies for the
access technology component of rehabilitation.  Coordinate and facilitate
the ordering and maintenance of equipment and software provided to
vocational rehabilitation clients.

 

MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS:

 

·        Associates Degree in Education, Social work, or computer-related
field.

 

·        Five years experience using a combination of Access technology in a
work or academic setting

 

·        Proficient and experienced in industry standard access technology
including but not limited to:  screen reading, magnification, OCR, note
taking/PDA applications. 

 

·        Two years experience teaching access technology to adults

 

·        Strong ability to trouble shoot and make basic and intermediate
computer and access technology repairs.

 

·        Experience advocating for individuals 

 

·        Strong relationship building skills

 

·        Strong teamwork and ability to incorporate macro and micro systems
simultaneously

 

·        Ability to work autonomously with strong problem solving, critical
thinking skills

Rehabilitation Counselor

BASIC JOB SUMMARY:    

The Rehabilitation Counselor is responsible for implementing
rehabilitation-counseling services for SAAVI’s participants.  The counselor
will provide age appropriate assessments, individual and group disability
adjustment counseling to blind/visually impaired transition and adult aged
individuals in order to assist in maximizing a person’s psychosocial and
emotional health. This position is additionally responsible for
implementation and maintenance of the SAAVI service plan which directly
supports the student’s IPE.  This includes career counseling, interpretation
of supporting evaluations, as well as facilitation an interdisciplinary team
approach for SAAVI service coordination within a vocational team.  

 

Orientation and Mobility Instructor

 

BASIC JOB SUMMARY: 

Teach individuals Orientation and Mobility skills with the white cane; to
participate in group O&M sessions as needed; to promote maximum independent
travel and confidence to all SAAVI students through a variety of travel
modes and options.  To provide Low Vision information and training.

 

 

MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS:

 

·        Possess ACVREP certification.

 

·        Have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Orientation and Mobility.

 

·     Experience working with dog guides preferred.

 

·     Experience with alternative O&M techniques preferred, I.E.  Experience
with GPS, familiarity and experience with structured discovery models, ETC.

 

·     Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills

 

·     Excellent writing and communication skills

 

·     Strong relationship building skills and experience working in team
settings

·        Licensed Clinical social worker, or 

 

·        License Clinical Counselor 

 

·        At least 1 year directly working with individuals who are blind or
visually impaired

 

·        At least 1 year providing individual or group counseling

 

·        Excellent organizational and program development skills. 

 

·        Excellent public speaking and written and verbal communication
skills 

 

·        Highly energetic, dynamic and self directed

 

·        Ability to incorporate one's theoretical counseling approach within
a time limited session structure, as well as within the client/counselor
contract. 

 

·        Strong relationship building skills

 

·        Ability to work autonomously and with a team utilizing problem
solving, critical thinking skills

 

·        Strong teamwork and ability to incorporate macro and micro systems
simultaneously

Rehabilitation Teacher

blindness, or previously under SAAVI internship

 

·        Experience and skills to perform case management

 

·        Thorough understanding of adaptive equipment

 

·        Experience advocating for individuals

 

·        Excellent organizational and program development skills. 

 

·        Excellent public speaking and written and verbal communication
skills 

 

·        Experience in writing curriculum or program proposals

 

·        Highly energetic, dynamic and self directed

 

·        Strong relationship building skills

 

·        Ability to work autonomously and with a team utilizing problem
solving, critical thinking skills

 

·        Strong teamwork and ability to incorporate macro and micro systems
simultaneously
