Job Description
The Division of Rehabilitation Services (DRS) at the Virginia Department
for Aging and Rehabilitation Services assists individuals with disabilities
to make informed choices that will maximize their employment through
coordinated service delivery. In collaboration with the Workforce Network,
we deliver quality workforce services to individuals with disabilities who
want to work and employers seeking to hire them.
This position provides comprehensive vocational rehabilitation services
which result in employment and enhanced independent living for persons with
disabilities while complying with federal, state, and agency policy and
procedures. Core vocational case management services may include guidance
and counseling, training, physical/mental restoration, and job placement
services.
The SMI Counselor will serve consumers living in the Fredericksburg area
who have serious mental illness.
Minimum Qualifications
Demonstrated knowledge of the social, economic, medical, vocational, and
emotional issues impacting persons with severe mental illness. Experience
interviewing, evaluating, and counseling individuals with psychiatric
disabilities. Demonstrated knowledge of methods and tools for career
counseling and exploration. Demonstrated ability in job development and job
placement. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple responsibilities.
Demonstrated knowledge of ADA compliance requirements. Demonstrated ability
to communicate effectively and establish and maintain effective working
relationships with customer's and the professional community. Demonstrated
knowledge and experience using Windows based computer software.
Master's, Specialist, or Doctoral degree in Rehabilitation Counseling or
current CRC credential or eligible to sit for the CRC required.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated knowledge of vocational service delivery to clients (youth and
adults) with Serious Mental Illness preferred.
Special Requirements
Master's level transcripts or copy of current certification, if applicable,
must accompany the application. Please note that the transcripts MUST
display the date that the degree was awarded.
