This Division of Employment and Rehabilitation Services (DERS) position is
responsible for providing for the blind and visually impaired the following;
administrative support to Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired and
Deaf (SBVID) writing reports and minutes, conducting meetings, and other
activities; monitor staff development, competencies, and specialized
training for staff; develop or participate in the development of policy and
best practices for Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA) staff;
coordinate semiannual, SBVID quarterly meetings, out service and any other
designated training or conferences including facilities, coordination of
speakers and curriculum, announcements, attendance, evaluations and other
factors as needed; technical assistance and consultation to RSA staff,
community providers, consumers and the community on blindness and deafness
issues; RSA programs, best practices, resources and relevant information
dissemination; participates in RSA meetings and activities and represents
RSA in meetings, workgroups, community and other Department of Economic
Security (DES) programs.
KNOWLEDGE OF: Vocational Rehabilitation, Independent Living Services, and
Business Enterprise Program; best practices and philosophy related to
blindness; state, departmental and program administrative policies and
practices; community blindness advocacy groups; computer programs, MS Word,
email;
SKILL IN: writing technical federal and state reports; communicating
effectively with staff and public; communicating in writing; coordinating
SBVID activities, meetings and trainings; handling multiple projects.
ABILITY TO: plan and organize multiple work task; write technical reports
and documentation; interact with public, providing presentations and
information; conduct program evaluation; think analytically.
SELECTIVE PREFERENCES: Master's degree from an accredited college or
university in Rehabilitation. 2 years of relevant work experience in the
area of rehabilitation and blindness.
We offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes 12 days' sick leave,
13 days' vacation, 10 paid holidays per year, health and dental insurance,
life and long-term disability insurance. Optional employee benefits include
short-term disability, deferred compensation, and supplemental life
insurance. Note: Elective benefits for new employees will be subject to a
90 day waiting period.
Employees must participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS).
Enrollment eligibility becomes effective after 27 weeks of employment.
