Job Description

The Iowa Department for the Blind (IDB) is seeking applicants for a position that will provide direct supervision to instructors who provide training in the alternative techniques of blindness needed for an individual to make a positive adjustment to blindness and successfully pursue vocational goals as well as personal independence.

Responsibilities include: directing the efforts of center staff to identify work experiences and job shadowing opportunities to help students become job ready, meeting with students and Vocational Rehabilitation counselors to evaluate progress toward established goals, and facilitating individual and group counseling sessions to address issues related to blindness.   Also responsible for coordinating training and providing direct supervision to center instructors and maintenance staff, overseeing the security of the IDB complex, planning the new staff seminar and monitoring orientation to  blindness training for new staff.

Will perform assignments at the discretion of the Department Director which impact the performance of the department as a whole, including: co-authoring and editing the department's annual report, strategic plan and other documents representing the department in "enterprise-wide" initiatives. Participate in management and supervisory team deliberations, planning and implementation of actions which affect the departments performance overall.

Requires the ability to manage human resources; directing, mentoring, training and counseling staff.

Knowledge of federal, state, and agency policies, regulations and guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited four year college or university and the equivalent of four years of full time professional level experience such as program administration, development, management or operations.
