Nancy: Since I don't know what databases AllState employs, it's kind of difficult to answer this question.
We have an individual who works for Nationwide Insurance as a customer service rep. This individual employs the use of both JAWS and Zoomtext in their day to day work. We also had a totally blind person working in this same area who used JAWS only. No special scripts were written, but the individual did have to employ excellent JAWS skills in reading PDF documents and working on the internet. This individual regularly used a braille display since they also worked from a mainframe. One of the big problems in the insurance industry, as in others, is the fact that they regularly scan in documents which come up as images which JAWS really can't help with, even with convenient OCR because so many of these applications are hand-written. My guess is that AllState does the same thing. I'm certain that if I were working in this area, I would need to employ the use of readers to surmount some of these problems.

Does anyone know of a blind insurance agent or customer service person? I would like to talk to them about what technology they are using to access the databases and other information required to give quotes and serve clients. Are there scripts for any of the programs? We are working with an Allstate representative who is willing and interested in hiring blind people.

Thank you for any leads you can give me.
