Southern Arizona Association for the Visually Impaired ORIENTATION & MOBILITY INSTRUCTOR - TUCSON
Job Summary: The Orientation & Mobility Instructor is responsible to teach individuals Orientation & Mobility skills with a white cane in a one-on-one or group setting; to promote a positive and progressive approach to independent travel for blind adults seeking employment within a comprehensive rehabilitation-training center.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:
* Conduct experiential-based O&M assessment while maintaining compliance with Arizona State Rehabilitation Services Administration assessment reporting forms
* Develop short term and long term goals with student
* Facilitate one-on-one and small group orientation and mobility instruction with students that support travel goals
* Support students in gaining non-visual travel skills while providing resources and support with low-vision equipment or technique if appropriate
* Develop individualized requirements for successful completion of goals by setting high expectations and insuring student can independently demonstrate goals consistently
* Complete all required reporting requirements
* Support other blindness skill instruction and/or other duties as assigned
Skills and Knowledge:
* Possess NOMC or ACVREP certification
* Bachelor's or Master's degree in Orientation and Mobility
* Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills
* Excellent writing and communication skills
* Strong relationship building skills and experience working in team settings
Conditions of Employment:
* Ability to pass a RSA background check
* Ability to obtain an approved DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card (Provided by SAAVI)
* Ability to obtain CPR and First Aid Certification (Provided by SAAVI)
* Complete SAAVI orientation and training with introduction to blindness emersion activities, this occurs under sleep shade and is designed to teach competencies of non-visional techniques. The duration of time is dependent upon employee's goal being accomplished.
