The most definitive guide to Social Security work incentives is the Redbook,
which many people don't know about. Here is the link:

Judy,

how true. there is also the Ticket To Work program that is designed for
people on social security that want to go back to work taking into
consideration the attention to the entire process so as to not complicate
the benefits and income that people depend on.

If you haven't done so, anyone wishing to work but concerned about how to
handle their SSDI or SSI should contact Disability Rights, and ask for help
in dealing with Social Security and going back to work, or still keep the
SSI. There are ways to do it, or at least to prolong until you can get on
your feet.

We had a speaker from our state's Disability Rights office who went into
great detail, and was very informative. Gave information none of us knew
about.

I'm actually an editor working with independently published fiction writers
(and have also been known to edit academic articles once in a blue moon).
The problem with growing a business is when you happen to be transitioning
off of SSI (or, I imagine, if you're supporting a family). What I'm hoping
to do is fine a job which will sustain me financially such that I can build
this on the side, if I wish, and then I won't be worried about dealing with
Social Security all the time. Unfortunately, the finding a job part is
rather lagging! Is anyone else here self-employed, a contract worker, or a
business owner? I'd love to hear about your process.

Mel

Or – employee ourselves. Entrepreneurship is amazing and does not require
being hired by anyone. Karen
