Location(s): Boise



This position is responsible for teaching activities of daily living. Preferred candidates will have knowledge or experience in this field.

May travel within an assigned area of the State up to 90% of work time.

Responsibilities:
*Determines individuals' training needs and plans instructional activities; assesses individuals' needs and capabilities and determines appropriate instructional methods; recommends low vision aids and instructs in their use; instructs individuals in alternative techniques; evaluates individuals' progress and behavior and prepares reports; consults with other instructors on course development and individuals' progress; coordinates educational goals with counselors; provides material including career planning, job placement, and blindness issues for the public and blind persons.
*Counsels clients in adjusting to blindness with emphasis on self-reliance, independence and alternative living skills; counsels family members regarding blindness.
*Answers questions regarding blindness and agency services; gives presentations and conducts tours of the agency for school and community groups and other interested parties.
*Conducts rehabilitation assessment of independent living needs, administers functional assessments and provides recommendations to staff and clients.
*Conducts initial interview and completes applications; obtains diagnostic information for the development of a rehabilitation plan and carries out respective services of that plan.

Minimum Qualifications:
*Good knowledge of instructional methods
*Good knowledge of counseling techniques
*Good knowledge of problems associated with blindness and community resources available for the blind
*Experience: developing and implementing instruction and training programs; assessing individuals' learning capabilities and evaluating their progress
*Experience making oral presentations

The following are not required, but may increase your score on the examination:
*
Professional experience with assistive or adaptive technology

*
Professional work experience as a member of an interdisciplinary team in a rehabilitation or education program for individuals who are blind or visually impaired

*
Good knowledge of alternative daily living techniques used by the blind or visually impaired
