Hi,
I am passing this on to those of you on the Jobs and Rehab listservs.
Glenn Moore sent this to me on behalf of Sean Whalen, NABS president. Can
anyone help Sean out on this discrimination case? I personally know of one
blind person who got a bachelor’s degree in biology and worked for
environmental organizations on a part time basis before going back to
college and getting a special education degree. Unfortunately, she isn’t
working in the biology field anymore.

Hi Sean,
I don't know a blind person directly who works in zoology, but what rings a
bell is that I believe the employment division had been working on a
project to get profiles or career-biographies of blind people in a wide
range of fields and how they do their particular work (for the purpose of
helping those interested in entering similar occupations have some
precedent to gain knowledge from). That said, maybe they have a contact of
someone with the background in zoology you are looking for. I've copied
Dick Davis (Employment Chair) at his BLIND Inc. email (other contacts at
https://nfb.org//divisions-and-committees#Employment
<https://nfb.org/divisions-and-committees#Employment>), in case he might
find this of interest and you both might find a person that fits what
you're looking for.
I wish you luck.

Subject: [nabs-l] Seeking assistance against discrimination
Good Friday afternoon,
I have been asked by a colleague to assist in an effort to find blind
individuals who study or work in the fields of zoology or animal science.
This is related to an effort to stop a school from discriminating against a
blind student wishing to enter this field. They need to hear from blind
people who have experience to demonstrate that blind individuals can work in
these fields. If you or anybody you know has work experience in any of the
following jobs, please contact me via nabs.president at gmail.com
<mailto:nabs.president at gmail.com> so I can put you in touch. This is very
important and has major implications for the field of study or a young blind
individual. Please contact me at your earliest convenience if you know
anybody who has worked, or if you yourself have worked in these fields:
Entomologist, Fish Culturist, Fishery Biologist, Herpetologist,
Ichthyologist, Lepidopterist, Marine Biologist, Migratory Game Bird
Biologist, Ornithologist, Protozoologist, and Wildlife Biologist (all these
jobs fall under zoologist) or Animal Nutritionist, Animal Scientist, Beef
Cattle Nutritionist, Dairy Scientist, Poultry Scientist, and Swine Genetics
Researcher (all these jobs fall under animal scientist)
Thank you very much for your assistance!
Take care,
Sean
