As I'm sure you already know, the Iowa Commission for the Blind is seeking
applicants for the position of director of the agency that provides
services to blind Iowans. I wanted to send you a copy of the job
announcement to ask if you know of anyone who might be interested in
applying for the position. If you do, could you please send him or her this
announcement? Applications are being accepted until July 29, and the
application process is uncomplicated. We're hoping for a wide pool of
qualified applicants from which we can choose the next director of the Iowa
Department for the Blind.







Your acquaintanceship among the blind community is widespread, and your
knowledge of the skills and abilities of many blind people is equally
widespread, due to your work in New Mexico and Minnesota and your
participation in NFB. So I'm sending you a copy of the announcement in case
you think of people who might be interested but who might not hear of the
opportunity or people who would be qualified but maybe not motivated to
apply because they already have a job. We're obviously seeking someone
unusual, so distributing this announcement widely is our best chance of
finding that person or, better yet, those people if we were to be so lucky
as to have to choose among good candidates. You know essentially what Joe
Van Lent, Sandi Ryan and I are looking for, so I hope your agile brain will
identify good candidates and your agile fingers send the announcement to
them!

The Iowa Commission for the Blind is seeking applications for the position
of Director of the Iowa Department for the Blind.



The incumbent functions as the director of the Department for the Blind, an
executive branch agency of Iowa state government.  The director heads the
state agency providing services to blind persons.  These services include
vocational and independent living rehabilitation, adult orientation center
training, the business enterprises program, and library services for the
blind and physically disabled.  The director is exempt from the merit
employment system of Iowa state government and serves at the pleasure of
the commission which seeks applicants with a positive philosophy of
blindness, high expectations of blind persons, and commitment to providing
an array of services which includes rehabilitation that leads to work and
other services empowering blind persons to discover and maintain
self-reliant independence.







Minimum qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college or
university, preferably with at least a master's degree and five years of
relevant management experience.







Salary range: $63,690-$97,460 annually, plus comprehensive benefit package.
