Job Summary

**This is an 10-month per year position and the work schedule follows the
MSA school calendar.**

This position is open for bid/application and for all qualified job seekers
simultaneously. This job is first open to employees of this agency who are
in the Special Teacher classification and are otherwise eligible (with
orientation and mobility certification) to apply. Other qualified
applicants will be considered if there are no eligible internal applicants.

The incumbent in this position will assist the Academy for the Blind to
develop and implement effective orientation and mobility training to
blind/visually impaired students.  This position will position will assist
blind/visually impaired students to achieve maximum independence through
instruction in safe, efficient travel within the home, school, job sites,
within the community and in any environment by providing direct orientation
and mobility instructional services.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Possession of a current and valid Minnesota Teaching License with
certification in Blind/Visually Impaired OR ability to obtain within six
months.

Possession of Orientation and Mobility certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience and background orientation and mobility training with
blind/visually impaired and/or multi-challenged youth.'

Master degree in Orientation and Mobility.

Successful participation of the State of Minnesota Star of the North
Fellowship program

Additional Requirements

This position requires successful completion of the following:

Successful completion of a Criminal Background check.

Employees driving on MSA business who use a rental or state vehicle shall
be required to conform to MSA’s vehicle use criteria and consent to a Motor
Vehicle Records check.
