The Department of Workforce Services (DWS) is seeking a *Rehabilitation
Program Specialist / Teacher of the Blind* to join the Utah State Office of
Rehabilitation (USOR) to work for the Division of Services for the Blind
and Visually Impaired (DSBVI) in our Salt Lake City office.
*Principal Duties*
The Rehabilitation Program Specialist performs the following tasks:
- Teaches an employment readiness class.
- Works with students one on one to help develop job readiness skills
such as resume writing and interview skills.
- Networks with employers.
- Provides assistance and/or on-the-job training.
- Documents progress of students.
- Oversees the college track program.
- Assists students through the application process for our college track
program.
- Oversees tutoring needs of students.
- Substitutes for training and adjustment classes as needed.
- Cross-trains with other staff to ensure quality services and
substitutions are provided among staff when necessary.
- Prepares monthly student reports and evaluations.
- Attends blindness related trainings and conventions.
- Coordinates and participates in monthly training center activities for
students.
- Organizes, leads, and/or participates in group discussions to promote
self-confidence, self-reliance, and positive attitudes about blindness.
- Attends staff meetings and client staffing as scheduled.
*Preferences*
Preference may be given to applicants who have:
- A Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field. Fields to include,
but are not limited to: vocational rehabilitation, vocational evaluation,
psychology, sociology, social work, Teacher of the Visually Impaired, and
recreational therapy.
- Knowledge of techniques used in teaching the blind or visually
impaired.
