Vacancy Announcement
- Job Title: Staff Manager

- Full/Part Time: Full-Time

- Regular/Temporary: Regular - Permanent

- Closing Date: Open Until Filled

- Pay Grade: 75

- Salary: The salary range for this position is $40,473 - $70,411 annually ($19.46 - $33.85 hourly). Offered salary will be based on education and experience.

- Benefits: Full State of New Mexico benefits, including health insurance, life insurance, retirement, sick leave, annual leave, and ten holidays.

- Why does the job exist? Manages and supervises the Independent Living Program, which provides a wide variety of blindness skills training to Commission vocational rehabilitation, Older Blind, and Independent Living clients,

- How does it get done? Incumbent serves as a working supervisor over the Independent Living/Older Blind Program, which includes seven Blindness Skills Instructors and two support staff. Plans, directs, and schedules the work of the unit; approves leave requests; evaluates performance; trains staff; keeps abreast of changes in the field; provides consultant services to clients and staff; assigns client training duties to staff; and carries a partial caseload of clients requiring blindness skills training.

- Who are the customers? Students and adults with blindness or severe visual impairments, family members, school personnel, employers, and Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors.

- Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate would possess a Bachelor's Degree; supervisory or management experience; experience with basic computer technology, assistive technology for blind and visually impaired individuals, and technology training; and the ability to teach cane travel, Braille, communication skills, and other skills related to activities of daily living for blind and visually impaired individuals.


- Minimum Qualifications, including Substitutions:

A Bachelor's Degree in any field of study from an accredited college or university and five (5) years of professional level experience operating within parameters and guidelines directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment. Substitutions Apply, as follows:

High School Diploma/Equivalent with nine years of experience; or

- Associate's Degree with seven years of experience; or

- Bachelor's Degree with five years of experience; or

- Master's Degree with three years of experience; or

- Ph.D. with one year of experience.

Working Conditions:
Work requires daily visits to client homes, secondary and post-secondary schools, and employer locations; regular exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT), personal computers, printers, scanners, and video magnifiers; and requires extensive telephone usage. Duties require lifting of typical desktop video magnifiers, as well as walking, standing, sitting, bending, and crawling. Regularly works with individuals with secondary disabilities, some of which resulting in challenging behaviors. Occasionally exposed to service animals.  Regular travel is required throughout New Mexico, including regular overnight travel using agency vehicles.
